He is survived by: his wife Colleen Shirts Coates; his children, Sherry Hart (Donald), Elaine Berger (David), Blair Coates (Michelle Bell), Dan Coates (Atina McPherson), Lyssa Linger (Andrew) and Lynn Sanford (David); and his sister Doris Johnson. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
