He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Nuttall and Winifred Nuttall (Wilkins); his wife Helen Wolfe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.; and his siblings, Leonard (Wilks), William Nuttall (Coardy), Winifred Jones and Dixie O'Hearn.

He is survived by: his children, James "Dustin" Jr. (Mary) of Magnolia and Jo-Jean Chamas (Lawrence) of Smithville; and his grandchildren, Ginger Chamas, Neffie Wilson, Marcy Messer, Melissa Hernandez, Eric Chamas, Dierdra Chamas, Kirby Nuttall, Nicholas Chamas, David Nuttall and Courtney Nuttall.
