He was predeceased by: his parents, James Franklin "Frank" Stoddard and Jean Louise Erdman Stoddard; and his siblings, Jim, Marjorie, Linda and Gary.

He is survived by: his wife Margaret Stoddard; his children, Brenton Stoddard, Eric Stoddard (Alisa), Kelly Bullock (Jesse), Janie Stoddard and Emily Allen (Casey); and his siblings, William, Marianne, Amy, Susan and Tom. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren.

Years later when the school parking lot failed, Robert organized local excavation contractors to donate their time, equipment, and materials.
