He was predeceased by: his wife Peggy Jewel Burkhart; his parents, Carl Henry Pelz and Nell Lavone Pelz (Day); his sister Frances Ann "Pelz" Smith; his son Troy John Pelz; and his siblings-in-law, Roy Allen and Judy Burkhart Welch Williamson.
He is survived by: his stepdaughter Marcy Kerr; his sisters-in-law, Alice Carter of Clintwood, Phillis Fricke of Weston, Jane Volkart of Belzoni and Joyce Burkhart of Bolivar, Missouri; and his niece Sarah Welch Pickett of Greenwood, Missouri. He is also survived by numerous other nieces and nephews.
