He was predeceased by: his brothers, Edwin and Clifford Bates. He is survived by: his wife Lee; his daughter Lisa J. Kolke (Jerry); his son-in-law Jerry Kolke of Battle Ground, WA.; his son David W. Bates; his daughter-in-law Kelly Bates of Garfield, WA.; his stepson Barrie Froseth; his stepdaughter-in-law Maeve Murphy; his stepdaughter Heidi Froseth of Minneapolis, MN; his grandson Mason Hadley Bates of Garfield, WA.; and his stepgrandchildren, Conor Froseth of Minneapolis, MN. and Emma Froseth (Amsterdam).
