With sadness, we share the passing of Charles Albert Shane Sr. (Alton, Illinois). Charles, born on March 10, 1936 in Granite City, Illinois, passed away on September 30, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Winfrey Shane and Susan Shane. He is survived by: his wife Frances M. Shane; his sons, Charles A. Shane Jr. (Beth) of Alton, IL. and John E. Shane (Shelia) of Galveston, TX.; his grandchildren, Carlee Turner (Stephen) and Haley Shane; his great grandchildren, Shane and Lucas Turner; and his brothers, Bill and Bob Shane.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gent Funeral Home & Cremation Services (2409 State St, Alton, IL 62002). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 at 12:30 PM at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, honoring Charles's commitment to supporting veterans.
