He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerald Garvey and Cynthia Garvey (Kodros) of Godfrey. He is survived by: his wife Aby; his children, Collin Garvey (Abby) and Kailea Garvey (Halston Heck); his siblings, Linda Fry (Clark), Michael Garvey and Brian Garvey (Ali Hankins); his siblings-in-law, Lloyd Peterson (Susan Peterson) and Amy Peterson (Mark Oemke); and his siblings' children, Aaron Fry, Cody Fry, Clayton Garvey, Jackson Garvey, Youma Garvey, Kyma Garvey, Mayma Garvey, Emma Peterson, Sarah Peterson, Arthur Oemke, Virginia Oemke (Brian Lydick), Rebecca Torgovnikov (Eugene) and Holly Madarash (Zach).
Visitation was held on Thursday, November 6th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Gent Funeral Home (2409 State St, Alton, IL 62002). A celebration of life was held on Thursday, November 6th 2025 at 6:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to APA of Missouri, which is where Jay and Aby rescued their second dog, Buddy, or Habitat for Humanity to celebrate his love of restoring homes for the good of people and communities.
