He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Helfrich and Mary Helfrich (Nargle); his wife Carol Helfrich (Kaufman); his son-in-law Phillip Hall; his grandson Shaun Hall; his brothers, Carl and Jack Helfrich; his siblings-in-law, Joy Helfrich and Jack Hatfield; his sister Glenda; and his brother-in-law Mike Fabits.
He is survived by: his children, Tish Hall (Mike Lang), Doug Helfrich (Barb), Kevin Helfrich (Angie) and Bryon Helfrich (Dianna); his grandchildren, Meghan Blechle (Jeremy), Morgan Rich (Tim), Austin Helfrich (Courtney), Wyatt Gabby (Emma McLaskey), Caleb Helfrich and Kelsey Helfrich; his great grandchildren, Aidan, Alex Blechle, Kohen, Kasen Layne, Christian Rich and Aria Caraker; and his sister Jeanne Hatfield. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home (211 W Broadway Blvd, Johnston City, IL 62951). A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, September 9th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the St. Paul's Catholic Church (1103 Washington Ave, Johnston City, IL 62951).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna, Illinois, in honor of George's life and service.
