He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Lyle and Fern Ida Dixon (Gould); and his wife Nedra Irene Avery. He is survived by: his children, Diane Funcannon (Mike) of Cassville, Toni Heathcoat (Kevin) of Peoria and Kevin Dixon (Lori) of Chillicothe. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Memorials in Bernard's memory may be given to the Hickory-Kerton Fire Department.
