He was predeceased by: his parents, William Harry McDonald and Ethel Roberta Francis; and his in-laws, Cecil and Mary Rhodes of Norman, Oklahoma.. He is survived by: his aunts, Ruth and Amy; his father-in-law Cecil Rhodes; his wife Sherry Rhodes McDonald; his sons, David, John (Sandra) and Seth (Kara); his grandchildren, Katelin, Addison, Charlie and Jack McDonald; his sisters, Irene Warning and Lorraine Steinberg (Taylor); and his sister-in-law Kathy Rhodes (Brad Quillen).

He was also an avid woodworker in his golden years, donating his time to create several projects for local businesses and charities.
