He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Lillian; his mother Sophia; his foster parent Hipolit (Paul); his aunt Marie Macaluso; his children, James Zarno (Corrine) and Christine Downes; his grandchildren, Michael Downes (Stephanie), James B. Zarno, Daniel Downes (Breanna), Kimberly Lind, Dr. Heather Downes, Amy Fell (Michael), Sarah Hilton (Andrew) and Amanda Fountaine (Warren); and his great grandchildren, Morgan, Rachel Lind, Lily, Sarah, Kaitlin Fell, Louisa, Fergus Downes, Evan, Brennan Downes, Austin, Landon Downes, Ryder, Piper Hilton, Davis and Beau Fountaine.
Visitation was held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Monday, October 19th 2026 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. A funeral Mass was held on Monday, October 19th 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the St. Anne Catholic Church (120 Ela St, Barrington, IL 60010). An entombment was held on Monday, October 19th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at the St Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery (1185 W Algonquin Rd, Palatine, IL 60067).
