He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernard Butler and Joan Schmitz Butler; his uncles, Morris Butler, Harry Butler, Donald Schmitz and David Schmitz; his aunt Mary Margaret "Margy" Niemann; his cousins, Timothy Niemann, Roger Schmitz and Scott Butler; and his grandfather Wilson Walker Butler.
He is survived by: his son Anthony "Tony" Butler; his girlfriend Mary Cassin; his sisters, Linda Campo (Carl) and Nancy Ryan (Thomas); his nieces and nephews, Travis Novak, Timothy Novak (Julie Ehlen), Sean, Andrew, Katherine Ryan and Marsha Schmitz (Donald); and his cousins, Gregory Schmitz (Rhea), Cindy Rasche (Dale), Julia Butcher (Jerry), Robert Butler and Pamela Brancato (Raymond).
