With heavy hearts, we announce the death of William G. Gerdes Jr. of Bartelso, Illinois, who passed away on August 21, 2025 at the age of 94. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his mother Anna; his siblings, Celia "Cele" Kreke (Frank "Bud") of Paul and Bernard "Bernie" Gerdes (Marcella "Sally"); his parents-in-law, Herman and Helen Timmermann; and his siblings-in-law, Virginia "Ginny" Winkeler (John), Ralph Timmermann, Bernice Deerhake (Paul), Dominic "Nick" Beckmann and Joseph "Joe" Timmermann.
He is survived by: his children, Kathy Engelmann (Rick) of Albers, Jerry Gerdes (Andy Thompson) of Parrish, FL, Marcia Thompson (Mike) of Bartelso, Jacinta Kohnen (Dan) of Germantown, Denise Haake (Doug) of Germantown and David Gerdes (Stacey) of Bartelso; his grandchildren, Brian Engelmann (Erin), John Engelmann (Tiffany), Anna Lampen (Nick), Matt Thompson (Haley), Benny Thompson, Ashley Schukar (Austin), Mary Anderson (Gavin), Seth Haake (Gabi), Katie Albers (Evan), Sarah Tock (Jonathan), Amber Watts (Brayden), Chris Gerdes (Abby Bango) and Tyler Gerdes; his great grandchildren, Lydia, Chloe, Quinten, Kailey, Lucas, Eli, Cal, Jayce, Sophie, Mikayla, Liam, Kylie, Toby, Noah, Ella, Amelia and Adelyn; and his siblings-in-law, Dolores Gerdes of Bartelso, Bernette Beckmann of Bartelso, Gertrude "Gertie" Loepker (Eugene "Gene") of Breese, Leona Thole (Richard "Rich") of St. Rose, Leon Timmermann (Laverne) of Belleville and Donald "Don" Timmermann (Marilyn) of Bartelso. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Cecilia Parish, Standin' Proud Veterans Tribute, or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
