He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene Sawalich and Helen Evans (Werner); and his stepfather Louis Evans. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Sawalich (King); his son Bill Sawalich (Shelley); his grandchildren, Maggie and Jack; and his sisters, Debbie Rose (Sam) and Donna Mathews (Steve). He is also survived by his brothers- and sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made in Gene's name to the K. Lane Miller Scholarship Fund at Belleville Township High School District 201, 920 North Illinois Street, Belleville, Illinois, 62220.
