He was predeceased by: his father John Shirley; his wife Lois Bower; his son Dale Bower; his grandson Craig Bower; and his siblings, Gerry, Wayne, Doris and Norma.

He is survived by: his daughter Cheryl Jones (Mike); his daughter-in-law Linda Bower; his grandchildren, Amber Safford (Chris), Michael Jones (Alyssa) and Jason Bower (Jenny); his great grandchildren, Lili, Natalie Safford, Maddie, Hudson, Hannah Jones, Hayden and Kamden Bower; and his siblings, Bill Bower (Ruby) and Mary Jo Reed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Swansea Baptist Church.
