He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth "Jane" Thomas. He is survived by: his children, Brian Thomas of Belleville, Bryant Thomas of St. Louis, Beth Chavarria (Michael) of Valrico, Fla. and Rebecca Thomas of Omaha, Neb.; his stepsons, Craig Mentzer (Joan) of Millstadt and Christopher Mentzer (Tracy) of Swansea; his friend Carol Boone; and his pet Grover.
