He is survived by: his wife Carole J. Betz-Stevens; his children, Lynn Mitchell, Judy Rickert and James Stevens; his grandchildren, Jamie, Sara, Alex and James; and his sister Sylvia Smith. He is also survived by great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, in honor of his first wife.
