He was predeceased by: his parents, William C. Herling and Ruth Herling; his wife Margaret Herling; his grandchildren, Jennifer Herling, Dustin Wierciszewski and Lacy Farris; and his siblings, Richard Herling, Raymond Herling, Ruth Adair, George Herling and Jean Haberstroh.
He is survived by: his children, William C. Herling, Jr. (Lynn), Richard Herling (Debra), Wayne Herling (Sandra), Thomas Herling (Christine Keel), Michael Herling, Sharon Wierciszewski (Stan) and Linda Herling-Castiller; his grandchildren, Ryan Herling (Haley), Brandon Villaseñor (Mauro), Richard Herling, Jr. (Erin), Steven Herling, Joseph Herling, Craig Herling (Kristen Bielke), Scott Herling (Jodi Gregson), Amanda Dressler (Joe), Traci Cihon (Neale Chumbler), Joseph Cihon (Sara Weinkauf), Cindy Garcia (Chris), Jessica Arro (Mike), Larry McCann, Brandon Wierciszewski, Crystal Milingis (Dainius), Zachary Castiller and Justin Castiller; and his sister Mary Ann Smith (James). He is also survived by many great-grandchildren, great-greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many loving friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 26th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, September 27th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Kassly-Meridith Funeral Home (515 Vandalia St, Collinsville, IL 62234). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 27th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Meridith Funeral Home (515 Vandalia St, Collinsville, IL 62234).
