He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Gardner and Faye Gardner; his stepparents, Ernie Shoemaker and Grace Gardner; his former wife Gerri Gardner; his son Willie F. Gardner; and his brothers, Gerald Gardner, Donald and Gary Shoemaker.
He is survived by: his sister Nancy Henson (Jerry) of Johnston City; his wife Audrey Geraldine Sullivan of Goreville; his children, Charles R. Gardner, Jr. (Thompsonville), Donna Shoemaker (Darren) of West Frankfort, Ron Gardner (Regina) of Thompsonville and Bob Gardner of Thompsonville; and his grandchildren, Megan Rogers, Misty Gardner, Carma Gardner, Amber Harris, Holly Blades of Brian, Cunningham, Alicia Roeder, Daniel Gardner, Nick Gardner and Amanda Lefler. He is also survived by many lifelong friend, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 28th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Union Funeral Home (213 E Oak St, West Frankfort, IL 62896). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 28th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
