It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Myrtle Armstrong of Bloomington, Illinois, born in Towanda, Illinois, who passed away on October 4, 2021, at the age of 103, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Roy McGuire and Annie McGuire (Karlock); her husband James E. Armstrong; her brothers, Roy and Chester McGuire; and her son Richard Armstrong.

She is survived by: her daughter Cheryl Vandell (Craig); her grandchildren, Michele Lewis (Ryan), Ricky Armstrong, Kathryn Vandell and Christopher Vandell; her great grandchildren, Carter Lewis, Samuel Lewis, Avery Lewis and Charlotte Vandell; and her daughter-in-law Mary Armstrong.

Memorials may be made to the Home Sweet Home Mission or to the First Christian Church of Bloomington.

“When we moved to Normal in 1972, Mickey and Jim were among the very first to welcome us to the community and to First Christian Church. We mourned Jim's passing and now we mourn Mickey's. She was one of the most gracious and kind people I have ever met. She saw the best in everyone. She respected everyone, and she was an unfailing beacon of hope, a loving optimist.. Everyone who knew her has been blessed by her warm and caring presence. We will miss her terribly.”
