He is survived by: his wife Janet; his sons, Todd Whitworth (Mollie) of Bloomington and Jeff Whitworth (Jenna) of Bloomington; his grandchildren, Carson, Dylan, Collin, Lila Whitworth, Parker McDermott and Hayden Whitworth; his sister Cheryl Hunley (Howard); his nephew Michael O'Brien; and his caregivers, Heather, Kimberly and Krista.

The family has requested no flowers, but memorials be made to the Kidney Foundation, the Cancer Society, or Alzheimer's Association.
