He was predeceased by: his parents, James Hajek and Gladys Hajek (Haney); and his sister Alice Jean Haebich (Hajek). He is survived by: his wife Karen Felix; his children, Keri (Chris), Kim, James (Lauren) and Krisy (Steve); and his grandchildren, Matt, Maverick, Kaylee, Ian, Sydney, Kathy, Sierra, Gabe, Calvin, Penny, Peanut, Lexi, Holly, Bunny and Steel.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to Brookfield Zoo Chicago (brookfieldzoo.org/donate), an organization that was close to Jim's heart.
