He was predeceased by: his parents, James Tarpley and Ruby Tarpley (Biehl); his wife Rita Graham; his brother James Richard Tarpley; his granddaughter Shannon Cessna; and his son-in-law Eddy Baker.
He is survived by: his children, Sheryl Baker of Olney, Illinois and James Dean Tarpley (Crystal) of Parkersburg, Illinois; and his grandchildren, Ross Tarpley, Heather Cosner (Shayne), Tyler Tarpley (Taylor) and Sheree Campbell. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.
