He was predeceased by: his parents, Encarnacion Gonzalez and Elisa Gonzalez; his granddaughter Jennifer Rodriguez; and his siblings, Ruben Gonzalez (Maria), Carmen Villa (late Enrique), Charlie Gonzalez (late Margarita), Paula Corona and Connie Torres.
He is survived by: his wife Angeline Gonzalez; his children, Lillian Rodriguez, Shirley Salazar (Javier), Gilbert Gonzalez Jr. (Kimberly) and Christopher Gonzalez (Jodie Zimmermann); his grandchildren, Angela Caprino (Joseph), Ariana Remus (Drew), Mallory Salazar (Brent Dunn), Jessica Salazar (John Blalock), Steven Salazar, Richard Salazar (Samantha Iwinski), Mary Langdon, Morgan Gonzalez, Allison Gonzalez and Peyton Gonzalez; his great grandchildren, Annabella Caprino, Rocco Caprino, Stella Dunn and Loretta Dunn; his daughter Rose Martinez; and his sisters, Rose Esquivel (Luis) and Esther Martinez (late Alphonso). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Visitation was held on Monday, July 14th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, July 15th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM. A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, July 15th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church (3200 E 91st St, Chicago, IL 60617).
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Shrine of St. Jude or the American Kidney Fund would be appreciated.
