He was predeceased by: his parents, Angelo Balsano and Myrtle Balsano (Spangler); and his former wife Patricia Balsano (Hendricks). He is survived by: his wife Kathryn Schwartz; his children, Pamela Portell, Sue Ann Wohner (Jamie) and Mark Balsano (Tammy); his grandchildren, Michael Portell (Abby), Sarah Flood (Tyler), Morgan Perkins (JT), Macey Flaugher (Andy), Trey Wohner, Haley Wohner, Ben Wohner, Nicolas Balsano, Ryan Balsano and Reese Balsano; his great grandchildren, Brody Perkins, Marley Flaugher and Nathan Flaugher; and his stepchildren, Tricia Yanuzzi (Fran) and Andrew Schwartz.
Visitation was held on Sunday, March 16th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Meredith Funeral Home (300 S University Ave, Carbondale, IL 62901). A funeral service was held on Monday, March 17th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church (303 S Poplar St, Carbondale, IL 62901). A committal service was held on Monday, March 17th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Murphysboro Food Pantry in Murphysboro, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
