He was predeceased by: his parents, William Sanders and Clara Sanders (Walker); and his siblings, Laverne Sanders, Myron Sanders, Kenneth Sanders (Marilyn), Bill Sanders (Doris), Helen McGee (Ray), Lillian Frick (Gene), Marie Platt (Chester) and June Sanders.

He is survived by: his wife Freida Joyce Stearns (Joy); his children, Forrest Lee Sanders (Kitty), Darrell Gene Sanders (Gerilyn) and Clara Ellis (Kenny); his grandchildren, Nicole Gordon (Kyle), Keriana Sanders, Lauren Sanders, Kristen Bathon (Jerod), Ryan Sanders, Katie Stearns (Kyle) and Megan Sanders; his great grandchildren, Lyla Gordon, Alex Bathon, Jolie Bathon, Mila Gordon, Hunter Bathon and Nora Stearns; and his brother Thurman Sanders (Bonnie). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
