He was predeceased by: his parents, Nicholas Kupczak and Betty Kupczak; his wife Betty L. Hartung-Kupczak; his sister Vicki Kupczak; his brother-in-law Hank Koehler; his grandsons, Daniel Payne, Blake Hartung and Reed White; and his great grandchild Caroline Weber.
He is survived by: his children, Steven Kupczak (Charish) of Carbondale, Erika Wilcut (Paul) of Marion, John Hartung (Stacy) of Carbondale, Katherine Rednour (Steve) of Herrin, Karl Hartung (Lisa) of Johnston City and Sharon Payne (Brian) of Johnston City; his grandchildren, Kyle Hartung (Heather), Kristy Cedar, Samantha White, Knicko Hartung (Shelby), Morgan Weber (Kraig), Austin Hartung (Lucas), Cullen Frick (Jasmine), Madison Reynolds, Lilly Frick, Adalyn Wilcut, Alexis, Brett, Walker Kupczak and Cooper George Kupczak; his great grandchildren, Conner, Mason, Camden, Coltyn Hartung, Trent Payne, Lyla, Emmet Cedar, Maxcene White and Naomi Frick; his siblings, Steven Kupczak (Jean) of Wisconsin and Karen Koehler of Lombard, IL; and his siblings' children, Nick, John, Michael Kupczak, Tim Koehler (Kristina), Becky Johnson (Adam) and Kristi Cullor (Nathan).
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made in his name to the Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Sierra Club.
