In loving memory of Marie L. Smothers of Carlyle, Illinois, who departed this world on October 16, 2025 at the age of 74. Marie leaves behind a legacy remembered by family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Eldred "Midge" Halluin and Monica Halluin (Peppenhorst); her in-laws, Joseph and Iva "Cleo" Smothers (Webb); and her sister-in-law Jacqueline Thompson.
She is survived by: her husband Larry Smothers of Anthony's Catholic Church; her children, Jennifer Gerdes (Marvin) and Joseph Smothers (Stacey); her grandchildren, Zachary Gerdes (Lourdes Rosado), Joshua Gerdes, Trey Gerdes (Isabelle Toeben), Kaylie Jansen (Brandon) and Chase Smothers; her great grandchildren, Brooke Nordike, Jenessa Gerdes, Camila Gerdes and Natalia Gerdes; her siblings, Kathleen Becker (Mark) and James Halluin (Cindy); and her siblings-in-law, Robert Smothers (Chris), Barbara Grawe (Tom), Donna Ratermann (Dennis) and Richard Smothers. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23rd 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Nordike Funeral Home (740 Fairfax St, Carlyle, IL 62231). A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 23rd 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made in Marie's honor are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice and will be received at: Nordike Funeral Home, 740 Fairfax Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
