He was predeceased by: his parents, Max Lair and Norma Lair (Dredge); and his brother-in-law Darrin Vandiver. He is survived by: his wife DeeDee; his children, Charles Lair (Dawn) of Coralville, IA, April Burke of Houston, TX, Kate Brender (Andrew) of Crocker, MO and Ian Beard (Angela Erickson) of Burlington, IA; his grandchildren, Alanna, Wesley, Elijah, Kendal and Sylas; and his siblings, Cathy Palmer (Eric) of La Harpe, IL and Michael Lair of Kansas City, MO.. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

A memorial has been established in his memory for the Des Moines County Animal Shelter.
