He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Cates and Nola Cates (Davis); his wife Minnie Kathryn Headlee; his siblings, Corrine Hardin and Chuck Cates; and his son-in-law Ernie Bartley.
He is survived by: his daughters, JoAnn Rich (David) of Carmi, Elaine Bartley of Carmi and Vicky Morrill (Henry) of Carmi; his grandchildren, Brian Rich (Sherrill), Tracy Hamm (Dave), Arron Bartley, Kevin Bartley, Matthew Morrill and Lindsay Belcher (Shaun); his great grandchildren, Taylor Ann, Madison Grace, Kameron Cole, Zarren Keith, Jacob Michael, Elijah Henry, Kathryn Grace, Kaleb Keith and Kaylin Ann; his great great grandchildren, Grayson Henry and Rowan Paul; and his siblings, Jolene Hucker, Gary Cates, Larry Cates and Calvin Cates. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Campbell Funeral Home (609 W Main St, Carmi, IL 62821). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
