He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Charles and Farrell Abell (Williams); his son Steven Douglas Abell; his grandson Shawn Abell; and his brother David Abell.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Abell; his children, Cheryl Stevens (Rick), Scott Abell (Barb), Jeff Abell (Brenda), Kurt Abell (Kelli) and Angie Sizemore (Stephen); his grandchildren, Chris Stevens (Vanessa), Shanna Simonton (Dustin), Matt Stevens, Heather Castlebery (Cole), Brittany Abell, Megan Abell, Kaitlyn Winget (Luke), Ryan Abell (Lisa), Brandon Abell (Dana), Joseph Abell (Shelly), Tony Abell (Kaitlyn), Ashly Abell, Derrick Abell (Jennessa), Nick Abell (Lauren), Karli Vaughn (Blake) and Tanner Sizemore; his brother Gary Abell; and his daughter-in-law Dana Eldridge. He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
