He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Shay and Wilma Shay (Launer); his wife Carol Rae Martens; and his sister Connie Dimopoulos. He is survived by: his daughters, Melissa Hopp (Mike) of Burlington and Joella Brown (Jim) of Edmond, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Jeremy Hopp, Brianna Zutz, Shayla McIntyre, Evan, McKenzie and Benjamin Brown; his great grandchildren, Isaac, Emily, Eric Hopp, Michael and Jameson McIntyre; and his brother Mike Shay (Debra) of Oklahoma.
Visitation was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Printy Funeral Home - Carthage (405 Cherry St, Carthage, IL 62321). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 1st 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church (921 N Co Rd 1900, Carthage, IL 62321).
Memorials may be made to the Heart Song Day Services in Burlington, Iowa.
