He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Hampel and Mary Hampel; and his wife Catherine Hampel. He is survived by: his sons, Phil Hampel (Dawn) and Doug Hampel (Mary Therese); his grandchildren, Tom Hampel (Crystal), Mike Hampel (Jessica), Brian Hampel and Katie Hampel; his great grandchildren, Blake, Max, Travis and Owen Hampel; and his brother Ed Hampel (Rosie).

“Oh my, the news of Paul's passing is truly truly sad. Both my dad, (Richard Sr.) and myself (Richard Jr.) worked many many years at the Park Ridge Post Office with Paul. My dad and I were both letter carriers. My dad retired with 36 years and I with 40 years of service. Paul was truly one of the nicest workers who worked at the post office. Never ever a harsh word from him. He was loved by all. Even at our retirement luncheon he was always a joy to sit and talk with. May he rest in peace now.”
