He was predeceased by: his parents, Burl Smith and Lela Naomi Smith (Cook); his former wife Ellen Black; his children, Gerald Wayne Black, Larry Black, Jesse Black, Roger Black, Virginia Ludeman, Judy Budd, Sharon Howe, Kathie Beasley and Brenda McComas; his wife Dorothy Corbett; his stepchildren, Iris McNurlan (Llyod), Kathy Cisney (late Vernon), Karen Haley (Mark), Ron Gross and Steve Gross; his siblings, Beverly Starwalt (Eugene) and Audrey Houser; his brother-in-law William "Bill" Houser; his nephew Phillip Starwalt; Brenda Franklin.
He is survived by: his former wife Karen Phillips; and his sons, Jerry Smith (Jami), Richard Smith (Kim), Bryan Smith (Christine) and Jamie Smith (Tina). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and numerus step grandchildren and great step-grandchildren.
