He was predeceased by : his grandfather Charles Long. He is survived by : his parents, James Abernathy and Marianne Abernathy (Nee Long) of Caseyville, IL; his fiancé Stacey Rito of Caseyville, IL; his children, Serenity Abernathy and Noah Abernathy; his brother Christopher Abernathy of Caseyville, IL; his grandparents, Betty Long, Walter and Jerry Ann Abernathy; and his close friend Dan Rito. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, everyone must wear a mask and socially distance.

Memorials may be made to Cody's Children's education.
