With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Douglas Howard Schmidt of Centralia, Illinois, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on September 28, 2025 at the age of 62. Though Douglas may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Douglas touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Schmidt and Marian Schmidt (Redeker). He is survived by: his wife Chris Schmidt (Kane); his children, Heather Morado and Jayk Schmidt; his sister Diana Rink (Dan); and his mother-in-law Jeannie Miller. He is also survived by two nephews and their spouses.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the City Hope Church (851 E 2nd St, Centralia, IL 62801). A celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 6th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Doug are invited to support his family in whatever way their heart tells them.
