He was loved and cherished by many people including: wife: Mary Jane "Connaway" Hardy; children: Stephanie (Chuck) Waggoner, Stacie (Scott) Wampler, Joe Hardy (Misty Diehl); grandchildren: Emily, Deven, Jake, Gage, Mimi, Addison, Amelia, Spencer and Bradey; great-grandchildren: Brylee and Avery; siblings: Brenda (David) Gerrish, Toni (Paul) Bailey, Tim (Rhonda) Coates, Eddie Hardy, Jerry Williams (deceased), Steve Coates (deceased) and Matt Coates (deceased); in-laws: Chris (Mary) Connaway and Cathy (Mark) Geiger; step mother: Marilyn Coates; parents: Naomi Hardy, Edward Hardy (deceased) and Bob Coates (deceased); daughter-in-law: Mandi Hardy (deceased); cousin: Loren B. Hardy; other: Orland Bauer and sons; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 9th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home (235 N Sycamore St, Centralia, IL 62801). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 9th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Southern Illinois Veteran Honor Flight and/or Murray Center Parents Association and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home located at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618) 532-3523, who is honored to be of service to Steve's Family during this time.
