He was predeceased by: his parents, Hattie Thompson Hassell and Joseph Hassell; and his siblings, Joanne Alexander of Virginia, Willetta Donaldson and Joseph L. Hassell, Jr..

He is survived by: his wife Betty J. Lewis Hassell; his sons, Charles Jr. (Carol) of Savoy, Philip Sr. (Angela) of Champaign and Elana M. Hassell (Vickie Lewis) of Chicago; and his grandchildren, Danielle, Philip Jr., Joshua (Alyssa Hassell), Brittany Barnes and Denver of Colorado. He is also survived by his family, friends.
