James Acheson Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of James Acheson of Champaign, Illinois, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on July 14, 2025 at the age of 91. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of James Acheson to pay them a last tribute.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Henry and Ruth Springer Acheson; his wife Emily Ann "Jill" Hanafee; his brother Walter Henry Acheson Jr.; his son Stephen Walter Acheson; his siblings-in-law, Jim Bailey and Doris Hanafee; and his cousin Jane Acheson Lacy.
He is survived by: his children, Bill Acheson of Champaign, Suzanne Warner (Brian) of Greenville, SC and Amy Durukan (Ata) of Champaign; his grandchildren, Alex Acheson (Mallory) of College Grove, TN, Sarah Weinberg (Zachary) of Pittsburgh, PA, Anna Bodfield (Joshua) of Taylors, SC, Adam Acheson (Sarah) of Bettendorf, IA, Scott Warner (Hannah) of Columbia, SC and Erin Durukan of Dallas, TX; his great grandchildren, Myer, Maddie Acheson, Emily, Sabin Weinberg, Lucy, Leo Bodfield, Avery, Bennett Acheson, Thompson and Clara Warner; his sister Ann Acheson Bailey of Cumming, GA; his daughter-in-law Eva Acheson of Franklin, TN; his brothers-in-law, Jim Hanafee of Pleasonton, CA and Patrick Hanafee (Valerie) of Aurora, CO; and his cousins, Jim Acheson of Camp Verde, AZ and Bill Acheson of Flagstaff, AZ. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 21st 2025 at 2:00 PM at the St. Peter's United Church of Christ (905 S Russell St, Champaign, IL 61821). A reception will be held on Monday, July 21st 2025 from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM at the same location.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Champaign Park District Foundation (706 Kenwood Road, Champaign, Il 61821, http://www.champaignparks.org) in recognition of the baseball fields where his sons and grandsons played for many years, and of West Side Park, which gave him beautiful and entertaining views from his home.
