“I met Maurice Haynes at Christmas 1965 when as a sophomore at Morehouse I came to visit Chicago for the holidays with her cousin and my best friend Walter Dallas, now deceased. I had a fantastic, memorable Christmas due in large part to her generous and thoughtful hospitality. I fell in love with the Windy City and decided I wanted to live there. I moved there in 1969 and remained until 1986. Those were the best of my 78 years. She was a blessing to me. May God rest her soul. Clarence White”
