He is survived by: his wife Joan; his children, Anthony Bartels (Audra), Lindsay O'Brien (Ian), Michele Bartels and Nicolle Macias (Vincent); his grandchildren, Lucille Bartels, MacKenna O'Brien, Vincent "Vinny", Madison and Dominic Macias; and his siblings, Kathleen Adduci (James), Suzanne Pengelly (David), Karen Zarifis (Michael) and Robert J Bartels (Manita).
The lying in state will be held on Monday, September 28th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Holy Name Cathedral (735 N State St, Chicago, IL 60654). A Mass will be held on Monday, September 28th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Tuesday, September 29th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Calvary Cemetery (301 Chicago Ave, Evanston, IL 60202).
