He was predeceased by : his parents, Margaret Slifka and Walter E. Smithe Sr.; and his grandson Timothy Smithe Jr.. He is survived by : his wife Flo; his children, Walter III Smithe (Mary), Cindy Perry (Randy), Tim Smithe (Mary), Margaret Smithe, Mark Smithe (Will Forrest), Hope Byrne (Jason) and Amy Smithe; his grandchildren, Maureen Brusznicki (Chris), Meghan Clarke (JC), Caitie Jisa (Danny), Casey Perry (Hillary), Colleen Smithe, Wes Smithe (Lexi), Bob Perry (Meghan), Cameron Smithe, Kelly Stock, Kevin Stock, Reid Smithe, Kathleen Stock, Jack Smithe, Summit Byrne, Ethan Byrne and India Byrne; and his siblings, Tom (Rosemary), Gary Smithe (Debbie) and Nancy Waters (Bob). He is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren.
