He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnnie Mae Bailey and Lesley Spencer; his wife Thelma; his brother Leroy Spencer; his grandson Eric Spencer; his son-in-law Michael Smith Sr.; and his great grandchildren, Justin and Jayden Pettway.
He is survived by: his children, Iris Thomas (Herman), Gail Smith and Anthony Spencer. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
