He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward "Ernie" Schmitt and Betty Schmitt (Binegar); his wife Colleen McQuellon; and his siblings, Jim, Marilyn Diviney and Trish Charlton.
He is survived by: his daughters, Jill Wade (Don) of Kyle, TX, Sarah Martin (Dan) of Indianola, IA, Susan Mettille (Scott) of Chillicothe, IL and Erin Thiessen (Brent) of Eldridge, IA; his grandchildren, Charde Ledford (Shea), Caitlyn Killpatrick (Justin), Ella Wade, Dagan, Lake Martin, Hunter Mettille (Erin), Hope Mettille, Kennadi and Kora Thiessen; his great grandchildren, Rhoen, Luna and Cruz; and his sister Mary Jo Wilcox.
Memorials in Tom's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
