He was predeceased by: his parents, Hewitt Glenn and Vivian Hope Townsend; his brother James Patrick "Pat" Townsend; his stepson-in-law Mark Upton; and his grandson Jonathan Berry.

He is survived by: his wife Carol of Clinton, IL; his brother Daniel Brett Townsend; his children, Shaun Townsend (Julie Posch), Shelly Grunsted (John) and Kelly Walter (David); and his stepchildren, Michael Berry, Kimberly Miller (Darin) and Amy Jo Upton. He is also survived by 3 nephews, 15 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mike Townsend Memorial Fund, c/o Carol Townsend.
