We bid farewell to John W. Skaggs of Coal City, Illinois, born in Pekin, Illinois, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on September 27, 2025 at the age of 66. John touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his father John M. Skaggs; his mother-in-law Joann Massey; his brother-in-law John Massey; and his grandparents, Charles and Catherine Whittington.
He is survived by: his mother Carolyn Skaggs (Whittington) of Pekin; his wife Karen Skaggs of Diamond; his children, Mary Essary (Adam) of Minooka, IL, John C. Skaggs of Chicago, IL, Michael Skaggs (Nina) of Coal City, IL, David Skaggs (Erin) of Naperville, IL and Suzanne Powell (Brian) of Channahon, IL; his grandchildren, Clara, Evan, Kirstyn, Landen, Noah, Addison, Maisey, Sophia, Anna, Liam and Lainey; his sister Catherine Bailey of Clinton, IA; his father-in-law Eugene Massey of Pekin, IL; and his brothers-in-law, Richard Massey (Chris) of Pekin, IL and Scott Massey (Teresa) of Pekin, IL. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Reeves Funeral Home (75 N Broadway St, Coal City, IL 60416). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 3rd 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Coal City United Methodist Church (6805 E McArdle Rd, Coal City, IL 60416). A burial will be held on Friday, October 3rd 2025 from 11:15 AM to 11:30 AM at the Braceville Gardner Cemetery (7295 E Braceville Rd, Braceville, IL 60407).
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in John's memory to the Coal City United Methodist Church or to the Coal City Food Pantry.
