He was predeceased by: his father James "Jim" Bennett Sr.; his brothers, William and Richard Bennett; his brother-in-law Ted McDonald; and his grandchildren, Emerlyn and Sawyer.
He is survived by: his mother Eloise Bennett Sr. (Stachewicz); his wife Cathleen; his children, James Bennett III (Stephanie), Sam Highland (Matt), Matt Mance (Amanda), Maria Miller (Buddy), Barbie Bennett, Clara Jo Bennett, Johnathon Threat, Samantha Washington, Jacqueline Robertson and Joey Martin; his siblings, John Bennett (Theresa), Christine Weber (Joe), Timothy Bennett and Jamie McDonald; and his sister-in-law Janette Bennett. He is also survived by many grandchildren; and a few great grandchildren.
