We bid farewell to Martin J. Den Hartog of Crete, Illinois, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on July 28, 2025 at the age of 83. Martin touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his siblings, Jerry Den Hartog (Pat), Pete Den Hartog (Sue) and Warren Den Hartog (Karen). He is survived by: his wife Judith A. Den Hartog; his children, Kenneth Den Hartog (Kimberly), Cheryl Schoonover (James), Sandy Den Hartog and Steven Den Hartog (Jody); his grandchildren, Jessica Den Hartog (Jeff Blandford), Megan Den Hartog (David Bixeman), Joe Schoonover (Amanda Winkler), Ryan Schoonover, Robert Schoonover (Kendall) and Mallory Paige Den Hartog; and his great grandchildren, Adriana, Nathaniel, Sophie, Tyler, Kinsley, Landon, Addison, Norah and Archer.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 3rd 2025 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Smits Funeral Home (2121 Pleasant Springs Ln, Dyer, IN 46311). A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 4th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Monday, August 4th 2025 at the Oak Ridge Cemetery (1966 Thornton Lansing Rd, Lansing, IL 60438).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Humane Society.
