He was predeceased by: his parents, Alphonse Toennies and Frances Toennies; his wife Darlene; his stepdaughters, Ann Toennies (John Whited) and Christine Netemeyer; his granddaughter Josie Walker; his siblings, Katie Loepker (Elmer), Ray Toennies (Marilyn) and Jerry Toennies; his parents-in-law, Herman and Mildred Wegmann, Sr.; and his siblings-in-law, Melvin Toennies, Alfred Toennies (Pat), Dolores "Dot" Goestenkors (Chuck), Albin "Bones" Toennies and Louis Wobbe.
He is survived by: his stepsons, Bob Toennies (Tammy) of Damiansville and TJ Toennies (Amber) of Damiansville; his stepson-in-law Allen Netemeyer of Damiansville; his grandchildren, Nathan Toennies (Amber), Jayson Netemeyer, Dakota Walker, Heather Toennies, Kaylee Netemeyer, Gavin Netemeyer, Katherine Whited, Hunter Toennies, Reid Toennies and Alexis Toennies; his great grandchildren, Arik, Dean, Ilona, Autumn Toennies and Autumn Abberley; his brothers, Marvin "Max" Toennies (Doris) of Damiansville and Al "Phonso" Toennies (Kay) of Damiansville; his siblings-in-law, Bernice "Mech" Toennies of Damiansville, Herman Wegmann, Jr. (Michelle) of Damiansville, Darlene Toennies of Damiansville, Alice Toennies of Damiansville and Angie Wobbe of Damiansville; and his godchildren, Tracy Schulte and Corey Toennies. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, December 13th 2025 from 8:00 AM to 9:15 AM. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 13th 2025 at 9:30 AM at the St. Damian Catholic Church (1 W Main St, Damiansville, IL 62215).
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to Mater Dei Catholic High School or St. Damian Catholic Church and will be received at the visitations or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St., Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
