He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Gerald Dean and Karen Padgett Liggett of Danville, IL; his wife Mary Epperson; his children, Dustin Liggett (Tammy Leigh) of Oakwood, IL, Jason Liggett of Champaign, IL, Britany Edwards (Brandon) of Indianola, IL and Claire Lane (Dillon) of San Antonio, TX; his stepdaughter Lindsay Overton (Jeremy) of Portage, IN; his siblings, Steven Liggett (Cheryl) of Catlin, IL and Daphne Dexter (Jeffrey) of Wooster, Ohio; his grandchildren, Brayden Edwards, Gavin Edwards, Ramona Liggett, Cecilia Liggett and Ashley Christine Overton; his sisters-in-law, Jill Epperson of Lake Station, Lynne Roth of Fort Myers and Charlotte Goldberg (Eric); his adoptive son Jermey Jones of Indianapolis, IN.; his stepdaughter Ashley Burbee; and his granddaughter Brooklyn Edwards.

He led a life of helping others, which he continues even in death through cornea transplant and the donation of his body to science for medical research and education.
